Do You Love a Great Latte?

Ever wanted to learn how to make a Latte at home?
or ever asked What is a Latte?

A Latte is an espresso drink that is usually made with steamed milk, espresso, and then topped with a layer of foamed milk (for an elegant and delicious experience). Enjoy learning how to make this popular espresso drink using our latte recipe below. Remember: You must froth the milk.

First, our Latte Recipe requires a small whisk, which will help you make the perfect latte; and even replace your favorite coffee shop beverage. Use a whisk that will fit inside your coffee mug, Preferably an aluminum whisk which produces more bubbles and froth better than a silicone whisk. Whisk the milk after it's been heated will form bubbles, or aerate the milk, creating a thick milk foam that is crucial for a good latte.

You’ll also need espresso roast coffee and a few barista skills and tools, to easily make our espresso drinks.

Time: 10 Min. - Difficulty: Easy - Serving: 1

For the Espresso:

  • Coffee: Finely Ground Dark Roast - 2 Tbsp.
  • Water: 4 Oz.
For the Foamed Milk:
  • Milk: Whole - 1/2 Cup

STEP 1: Brew Coffee

  1. Add water into the boiler of your espresso machine.
  2. Place the 2 tablespoons (2 shots) of ground coffee into your portafilter.
  3. Tamp (press) the coffee down using a tamper. Pressing down 2 to 3 times making sure the grounds are packed tightly.
  4. Place the portafilter into your espresso machine's group head and lock it in place.
  5. Place your demitasse cup or a glass carafe under the group head and pull the shot for 23 to 30 seconds, or until 2 ounces of espresso is yielded.(Typically, there is a lever, switch, or button to start this process).
  6. Once the espresso shot is pulled, warm up the milk.

    STEP 2: Whisk The Milk

    1. Warm up the milk.
    2. Once the milk is heated, take a small whisk and vigorously whisk back and forth for 20-30 seconds (until the milk forms large bubbles and becomes frothy). This will form the foam on your latte.
    3. Slowly pour the strong coffee or a shot of espresso into the mug over the frothed milk. The foam will rise to the top of the mug, giving you a pretty close replication of a traditional latte.
    4. Spoon the remaining foam on top of your latte.
